Houston Chronicle reports that Alfonso Soriano is being wooed by the Houston Astros. Soriano is expected to seek a seven-year deal in the $120 million range, which is an average annual salary of more than $17 million.
While some say that new Nationals field manager and fellow Dominican Manny Acta could provide an attraction for Soriano to stay in D.C., most believe that those greenbacks will draw Soriano's attention more than anything else. The Nats are not willing to pay big bucks to Soriano when they can do almost as well using other sources of talent. Besides, wasn't it Acta who kept Soriano on the bench during the World Baseball Classic, only to send him up there once and see him strikeout?
The Phillies are considered to have the inside track on Soriano by Buster Olney and other commentators, so we'll just have to see how this one plays out.
